ROSSMOOR, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police are searching for two men who robbed a 90-year-old woman at gunpoint after ambushing her as she walked down her driveway to pick up the morning newspaper.
The woman went to get the paper about 11 a.m. Wednesday in front of her home in the 11600 block Weatherby Road, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino said.
One of the men shoved a gun into the woman's neck, and they both ordered her back inside her home, Amormino said.
Once inside, the robbers tied the elderly woman to a chair and covered her face with a towel.
One of the men watched her with the gun pointed at her while the other ransacked her home, Amormino said.
The robbers took jewelry -- some that she was wearing -- before getting into a small white pickup truck and driving away.
The men were inside the woman's home for about 45 minutes, according to Amormino.
Once the robbers left, the woman used a Life Alert necklace to call for help. Officials say she didn't use during the robbery because she was afraid of tipping the men off that she had it.
Paramedics arrived to find her very shaken up. She also suffered a broken arm.
"Mom's doing fine," her son told KTLA. "She's definitely rattled that somebody comes up and puts a gun in your neck."
"She's been through a lot of situations in her lifetime, and I think because of that she acted appropriately," he added.
Investigators have few leads to go on as they try to find out who robbed the woman.
The robbers are described only as men in their 20s.
Police released a sketch of one of the men based on the woman's description of him.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is urged to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at
855-TIP-OCCS.
