Roseburg (KMTR) - A Roseburg man credits a smoke detector for waking him in time to make it safely out of his burning home early Tuesday Morning.
Firefighters were called out to the home on the 800 block of W. Broccoli Drive around 3 a.m. and discovered a large section of the back of the home on fire. The flames quickly spread through the home’s attic.
Curtis Day told fire investigators that he was asleep when the smoke detector’s alarm and his “Life Alert” system sounding the word, “Fire! Fire!” woke him in time to escape through the back door.
Outside, Curtis tried to put the fire out with a garden hose. Firefighters took over and worked for an hour to extinguish the flames.
Initial estimates put the damage at around $100,000.
